The Beginning of Something Good
In a 1989 cafe, coffee was instant from powder and ‘fresh’ food was thawed out from the freezer. Bob and Wendy Nelson had a vision to introduce Australians to perfect espresso made fresh in front of customers and handmade fresh food in a cosy cafe environment.
The Nelsons opened their first oven and espresso machine cafe in Coolangatta on Australia’s Gold Coast and saw the concept take flight. Together with the Fitzgerald family who invested in Foodco in 1991, they developed one of Australia’s leading retail executive teams.
When Serge Infanti, now Chief Executive and investor, first joined Foodco as one of its first franchisees, he used his Milanese cafe family expertise to further enhance the smooth systems that still push Foodco to the forefront of the cafe business today.
